As we begin to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the opening of Bailey Middle School, we are excited to honor three current staff members who have been at Bailey since it's opening. Spanish teacher, Sally Venegas (left), Counselor, Lori Frels (middle) and Math Specialist, Lynn Owen (right) were here the day the doors first opened in the fall of 1993. They have influenced thousands of lives who have since passed through those doors. We are grateful for your service to our students, to our Bailey community, and to the education profession in general. You are Bailey's finest.
Bailey is excited to announce that Sylvia Acevedo will be on Campus on Monday, October 1st. Acevedo is a rocket scientist and award-winning entrepreneur who served on the White House Commission for Educational Excellence for Hispanics and is currently the CEO of the Girl Scouts of the US. Acevedo’s new memoir is an inspiring tale for young readers.
After a meningitis outbreak in their underprivileged neighborhood, Acevedo struggled in the aftermath of loss. The Girl Scouts taught her how to take control of her world and nourished her love of numbers and science. Acevedo navigated shifting cultural expectations at school and at home, forging her own trail to become one of the first Latinas to graduate with a master's in engineering from Stanford University and going on to become a rocket scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
